Florida Impact-Resistant Windows and Doors Sales Tax Exemption

Impact Doors,Impact Windows
A spacious dining room with hardwood floors, a coffered ceiling, and impact windows and doors is eligible for the sales tax exemption.

There is great news for Florida home owners that want to improve the safety of their houses against hurricanes! If you’ve been wanting to upgrade your home with impact-resistant windows and doors, now is the perfect time to do it. The Florida Department of Revenue is currently granting a sales tax exemption on all retail sales of impact-resistant windows, doors, and garage doors.

Between the general state sales tax of 6% and county surtaxes that average 1.5%, you can see up to a 7.5% savings on any impact-resistant project you undertake. These savings add up and will leave extra money in your bank account! What does this mean for you and your home? Let’s take a closer look at some of the details of this community-strengthening promotion.

How Long is the Duration of the Sales Tax Exemption?

The tax exemption period began on July 1, 2022, and will continue through July 30, 2024. So, as long as you make your official purchase within this time frame, you will receive the exemption, even if the delivery occurs after July 30, 2024.

Now is the time to take action. You can trust A-Christian Glass to guide you through the entire process from sales and installation to your final inspection. Call (561) 278-3385 to get started today.

What is Included in the Sales Tax Exemption

In order for products to qualify for the exemption, they must be classified as “impact-resistant”. This means that they are manufactured with specific design wind pressure (DP) and performance grade (PG) ratings. There are code standards that must be upheld in order for a window or door to get the title. These high standards result in a quality product that benefits homeowners in several ways:

  • Protection from hurricane-force winds and debris
  • Greater protection from burglaries
  • A better sound barrier to outside noise
  • Better insulation from heat and humidity

Another perk is that any service warranties you may purchase along with a certified impact-resistant product will also fall under the tax exemption. Shipping and handling costs? Yes, those charges qualify as well!

Is There a Quantity Limit in the Exemption?

Not at all! You can purchase as many impact-resistant windows, doors, and garage doors as you want during the exemption period.

What if I Need to Exchange my Products After the Time Period Ends?

No problem! There are provisions in place that are made for you to make some minor exchanges with your products even after the tax exemption period ends. However, if you are returning your items and receive in-store credit for a different product after the period ends, you will be charged sales tax on any new items you buy.
